A case of vestibular schwannoma with oral burning sensation: surgical complication or burning mouth syndrome?

Abstract Background Despite improvements in surgical techniques, the removal of vestibular schwannoma is related to some complications. Recovery from complications often difficult and sometimes lead permanent deficits. However, treatable trigeminal symptoms may be missed atypical cases. Case presentation A 46-year-old woman complained about burning sensation on her tongue maxilla for four years before first visit our clinic. She visited neurosurgery department a university hospital because facial pain were suddenly aggravated. was diagnosed with tumour resection performed. oral persisted after surgery. Two months initial clinic, became more severe than ever before. When patient psychiatrist due panic attack, as having somatic symptom disorder depression referred Based characteristics pain, she mouth syndrome treated same. Within 1.5 months, almost completely remitted low dose amitriptyline. Conclusions Our case suggests that there are exceptional cases which occur simultaneously. Burning surgery cannot always considered complication
